Building New Websites for Non-Profits: Coonhound & Foxhound Companions
Building new websites for non-profits is one way we can give back and support causes that align with our passions! One of which is animal welfare.
We’ve been adopting hound dogs from rescue organizations since 2008, starting with our first dog, Cassie. Cassie was a ‘Katrina puppy’, a survivor of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and rescued by the Helen Woodward Animal Center here in San Diego California. Cassie was a Treeing Walker Coonhound, and although we’d never heard of that specific breed before, we instantly grew to lover her and her hound dog ways! Three coonhounds later, all rescues, we connected with Coonhound & Foxhound Companions through social media and became quite engaged with the stories they share.
As a non-profit organization, Coonhound & Foxhound Companions’ mission is to advocate for coonhounds and foxhounds as family companions through education, community engagement and monetary grants that fund veterinary care for sheltered or abandoned dogs in need of rescue or adoption.
Therefore, after following Coonhound & Foxhound Companions and their work for a few years, we reached out to them to see if we could volunteer our services. They mentioned needing a new website that could better serve the community, and we said yes!
Like many small non-profits, the team behind Coonhound & Foxhound Companions is all volunteer-based. They derive no income from the donations, and put everything back into promoting breed knowledge and understanding for potential adopters and coonhound loving families.
With over 20 years of dedicated service to non-profits, we know there’s typically a small team of people that handle everything. From taking donations to email marketing, web design and social media.
This holds true for the Coonhound & Foxhound Companions. So, we knew we could help them by creating a new website to better support their community and initiatives. Here’s a few of the website build goals we’ve tackled:
- Designed a brand new user-friendly Squarespace website!
- Made it easy for people to make a donation, find adoption information or other resources
- Hosted calls with the team to walk them through how to make edits such as adding new pages, swapping out images, etc.

Services performed on this project
Our website was built on an older platform that was outdated and not easy to maintain. From the get-go, Tyler and his team structured the design process and kept us in the loop every step of the way. I was impressed with his professionalism, organization, and proactiveness. He made everything from selecting images to laying out our content easy to follow and was a joy to work with throughout this process!
