How to create a strategy For marketing Outdoor Education Programs

 

Colorado Mountain School is one of the oldest and most celebrated mountain guiding operations in North America.  Based out of Boulder and Estes Park, the Colorado Mountain School provides outdoor education programs and guiding services that include:

  • backcountry skiing and splitboarding
  • AIARE avalanche education
  • rock climbing instruction and instructor training
  • alpine and big mountain objectives
  • ice climbing adventures and education
  • domestic and international ‘bucket list’ adventures

Russell, the owner of the Colorado Mountain School, along with his Chief Strategy Officer Simon, came to us seeking help with how to better market their outdoor education programs.  Their email marketing, social media management, and content creation were 3 of the key areas we felt we could help.

Russell and Simon had seen success from previous marketing efforts, but were challenged to maintain consistency and accountability.  Additionally, they were looking to reach new audiences and bring more diversity to the world of skiing, rock climbing, and mountaineering.

 

Creating Lifelong Adventurers

 

Why this need to create a better marketing strategy for outdoor education programs?  Well, now more than ever, people are spending more time outdoors.  In addition, many are new adventurers and seeking to gain knowledge of how to climb, ski, or simply hike in an alpine environment.  Taking the right approach as you think about how to reach the right audience and get them to convert is critical. 

As a result, they want a guiding service or education program that provides all the gear and access, while under the constant supervision and coaching of a professional mountain guide. Therefore, through Colorado Mountain School, participants gain a deeper, more fulfilling experience in these alpine environments.

 

 

Reaching outdoor enthusiasts online

 

If you’ve never used the services of a guide before, it is a unique process.  One of the key factors in making a purchase decision is an unspoken trust between you and the guide that you will reach your summit or objective safely.

Therefore, we created a marketing strategy to highlight the skills, knowledge, and credentials of Colorado Mountain School’s guides.  We’re working directly with the guides to acquire new photos, videos, and blogs to create more brand awareness for their outdoor education programs.  Then, we’re weaving this content into their social media and email marketing channels.

As a result of the changes we’ve implemented, and the consistency at which we post and engage, Colorado Mountain School has seen growth on both Facebook and Instagram.  In addition, they’ve seen an increase in website traffic from our email marketing campaigns.
