How to Build a stronger community of Mountain Bikers
As mountain bike enthusiasts, we’re so grateful for the miles of great terrain and well-maintained trails in Southern California. And, we know organizations like the San Diego Mountain Biking Association help to keep them accessible for our use.
In addition, when we’re on the road traveling, we continue to seek out epic trail riding experiences and connect with other mountain bike communities. So, when Michael Anzalone, Executive Director of the California Mountain Biking Coalition (CAMTB) reached out to us for help with marketing, we were in!
Who is the California Mountain Biking Coalition?
The mission of the California Mountain Biking Coalition (CAMTB) is to improve and increase trail access for mountain biking throughout California by providing as unified, statewide voice for organizations and individuals.
CAMTB is funded through member organizations, individual donations, and corporate partners. Fundraising happens year-round, and Michael is responsible for this along with all marketing efforts.

Growing brand awarEness in the mountain biking community
As a fairly new organization, CAMTB needed to create processes to help them with social media posting and monthly emails to better engage with the mountain bike community. In addition, CAMTB also needed help growing brand awareness.
Many mountain bikers in California know of their local non-profit mountain biking association. However, not many know there is now a ‘parent’ organization that engages with state, regional, and federal agencies to cultivate partnerships, engage in planning, and track legislation to ensure bike-friendly trails are a consideration throughout California.
With the help of Top Rope Media, CAMTB now has a marketing strategy in place to:
- share mountain biking news across their multiple social platforms- Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
- motivate their member base to provide updates on local trail days and events
- create more brand awareness and engagement with paid advertising
- generate email newsletters to increase donations and corporate partnerships
